About Us

Thirtybirds Botanicals is owned and operated by a first-generation Persian-American woman living with multiple chronic illnesses on Coast Salish land.

My wish is to share with you the treasures of Persian wellness and culture with the modern world.

I view wellness as deeply interconnected with our surroundings, and make company decisions with consideration for the impact they have on our environment.

Our Name

The Sufi poem, The Conference of the Birds, was published in 1077 by The Attar of Nishapur. It tells the allegorical story of the birds who undertake a perilous journey through seven valleys to crown their King, the mythical Simorq, whose court sits atop the legendary Mount Qar which encompasses the Earth.

The birds must pass through the Valleys of the Quest, Love, Insight, Detachment, Unity, Wonder, and Nothingness before they may enter the Simorq's court. Of thousands, all but thirty birds perish along this treacherous flight.

At the summit of Mount Qaf, those thirty birds do not find the Simorq until they see the reflection of themselves flying together in peace and unison. The Simorq lived within each bird all along.

The name Simorq can be translated to thirty (Si-) birds (-morq).

"If Simorq unveils its face to you, you will find that all the birds, be they thirty or forty or more, are but the shadows cast by that unveiling. What shadow is ever separated from its maker?"

Sepanta's Journey to Wellness

Fed up with Western 'treatments' for my chronic health concerns, I turned to ancestral wisdom. Through developing a personal holistic practice I have achieved wellness I would never have thought possible when I began my healing journey of body, mind, and spirit. The three are inseparable and must be treated as such to achieve a state of well-being.

I have been diagnosed with hypermobile-type Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (hEDS), schizophrenia, and Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (cPTSD). I have been living medication-free for three years after nearly a decade of taking innumerous medications for psychiatric and somatic ailments. I credit my ability to live pharmaceutical-free to adopting a community-based lifestyle and a holistic approach towards wellness.
